1951       Bessie Blount invented a device to help the disabled person eat.            
1952 Protein structure examined

Jonas Salk invented polio vaccine
Paul Zoll develops the first cardiac pacemaker to control irregular heartbeat.        
1953 Structure of DNA found Gibbon performed the first human open heart operation in 1953.        
1954   Dr. Papanicolaou's comprehensive scientific treatise "Atlas of Exfoliative Cytology," was published. Forrest Bird founded the Bird Products Corporation to market and develop his respirator devices. Dr. Joseph E. Murray performs the first kidney transplant between identical twins.      
1955 Jonas Salk develops the first polio. Death of Egas Moniz (developed Lobotomy and brain artery angiography. )

Death of Sir Alexander Fleming (March 11)


Fleming discovered the antibiotic penicillin whilst working in St Mary's Hospital, London. A doctor in the First World War, Fleming realised there were few effective ways to treat infectious diseases.

1957 Rachel Fuller Brown and Elizabeth Lee Hazen invented the worlds first useful antifungal antibiotic - nystatin. Vance Packard publishes The Hidden Persuaders, criticizing advertising industry for psychological manipulation of consumers. pacemaker invented by Clarence W. Lillehie and Earl Bakk

Walter Grey Walter invents the brain EEG topography (toposcope)
Dr. Willem Kolff and Dr. Tetsuzo Akutzu implant the first artificial heart in a dog. The animal survives 90 minutes.        
1958   John Kenneth Galbraith publishes The Affluent Society, arguing that advertising encourages unhealthy materialism in the United States.

1960 First Patented Antibody Labeling Agent (May 17)

Patent Number 2,937,186 for "Isothiocyanate Compounds and Means of Producing the Same Isothiocyanate Compounds" was issued to Joseph Burckhalter and Robert Seiwald.
